Jajpur is one of the major agriculture district of the state. It is surrounded by hills, rivers and forest. It is constituted by two nos of agricultural climatic zone, three nos of agriculture districts and 10 nos of blocks out of 1,42,750 hector of cultivated land, 1,11,100 hector is paddy land during Kharif season. The fertile loamy soil of the district is help full for increase of the crop productivity. In the district soils like Loamy, sandy, clayey and red are also seen. Rapid increase of industrialization in the state and also in the district is decreasing the fertile cultivated land. Paddy is the main crop in the Kharif season where as Groundnut, Mung, Biri, Vegetable and Sugarcane are grown mainly in Rabi season. Jajpur district is famous for Groundnut cultivation in the state. Normaly Groundnut is cultivated in 30,000 to 35,000 hector in the district. In addition the state is proud for cultivation of vegetables in Rasulpur, Barachana and Jajpur blocks of the district. Through the help of Shakti Sugar Ltd. situated in Dhenkanal district and by the direct supervision of the Agriculture department of the district, the farmers are being benefited by cultivating about 1500 hector of Sugarcane crops. There is clear difference between agriculture of 25 years back and now a days.

The farmers of the district are being benefited by involving in different schemes like National Food Security Mission (NFSM), Bringing Green Revolution in Eastern India (BGREI), Rastriya Krushi Vikash Yojana (RKVY), National Mision on Oil seed and Oil pam (NMOOP), Farm Mechanization, Jalanidhi, Soil Health Card scheme, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Snchayee Yojana (PMKSY) of State and Central Govt. by the supervision of agriculture department. The district is self-sufficient in production of paddy and vegetables by the effort of the farmers and agriculture department. The farmers and their family members are being benefited of Rs. 1 Lakh towards their medical treatment under the scheme Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana (BKKY) implemented by the State Govt. Now a days by the special incentives of the State Govt., in every village farmers are using Tractor, Power Tiller, Rotavator, Combine Harvester, Special Power Operated Implements and Pumpset to increase the production and productivity of the crops where as few tractors are being engaged in agricultural activities 25 years back.

During the last 25 years there is significant increase in the production and productivity of the crops by the use of more and more High yielding and Hybrid varieties, improved agricultural technologies, increase of irrigated land, Integrated pest and disease management, Integrated weed management, Increase in use of fertilizer and Micronutrient, Line sowing and Line transplanting, use of SRI method of paddy cultivation, Soil Testing, diversification and crop rotation. The farmers of the district have major contribution for conservation of 897 nos of Local varieties in the Gene Bank of the state. Now the per ha productivity of paddy is increased to 40 Qtl. per hector where as it was 12 Qtl. per hector 25 years back. For bringing transparency in the system the subsidy amount under different schemes is transmitted through online to the farmers bank account (DBT). Different improved technologies and High yielding varieties are being reached to the farmers through field demonstrations. The more and more benefits of different schemes is being fulfilled through (ATMA).
